Whether you’re considering a stay at Malibu Island or preparing for your arrival, you probably have some questions. We’re always happy to answer them via our Contact Us form, but you may also find the answer below.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

You may check-in after 3:00 pm on the day of your arrival. Check-out is 11:00 am unless a later check-out time is approved in advance by management.

Earlier check-in or later check-out times may be requested, but their availability cannot be guaranteed.

Please note that the reception office closes at 7:00 pm every evening. If you will be arriving after then, please contact management for check-in arrangements.

Can we bring our kids?

Malibu Island welcomes children ages seven years and older. Due to liability restrictions, children less than seven years old are not allowed on the premises, either as overnight guests or day visitors. However, guests may bring infants up to six months old who cannot crawl or walk.

Can we bring our dogs or other pets?

In general, pets are not permitted at Malibu Island. Exceptions may be made for one small (under 20 pounds), adult, well-behaved and housebroken dog. Please arrange with us in advance of your stay for a dog. A refundable pet deposit of $100 and a small additional cleaning fee of $10 per night will be required. Dogs must be with the guest at all times, not left alone in the house, and never left outside alone.

What housekeeping services are offered?

All of our rooms are thoroughly cleaned and all towels and linens changed before each stay. During your stay, you will be responsible for your own housekeeping—each unit is supplied with cleaning equipment. Fresh towels and sheets may be requested from management as needed.

We ask that you clean and put away any dirty dishes and dispose of all trash in the outside garbage bins before checking out.

For long-term guests, room cleaning is provided once every three weeks.

Can I do my laundry there?

Washers and dryers are available to guests of the Pool House, the Cottage, and the Artist House at no charge. For guests in our other rooms, management can recommend laundromats in Agoura and Malibu.

Will my cellphone get a signal?

Owing to the relatively remote location of Malibu Island in the mountains above Malibu, adequate cellphone reception cannot be guaranteed. In our experience, Verizon and AT&T offer more reliable signals on our grounds than T-Mobile and Sprint.

Do you offer internet access?

Free WiFi is offered to all Malibu Island guests. However, due to our relatively remote location, our bandwidth is constrained. While our WiFi is more than adequate for normal web browsing and email, it is not sufficient for large downloads or streaming video.

Can I have visitors or host a party during my stay?

In order to preserve Malibu Island’s peace and tranquility for all who stay here, no guest is allowed more than two day visitors at any time unless cleared with the management in advance. No large parties are allowed.

What is your policy on smoking?

Smoking is only allowed outside, on decks or patios. Smoking is not permitted inside any room. Smokers must use ashtrays (available by request) and must not drop cigarette butts on the grounds. All guests should be very cautious with respect to fire safety. This property is a highly flammable area. We are under strict regulations by the County of Los Angeles to maintain rigorous fire safety practices.

What fees or deposits may be charged during my stay?

A security deposit of $500 is assessed for each stay. The deposit amount is not charged, but only put on hold on your credit card. The hold is released 10 days after check out, unless there is excessive soiling or damage as described in the guest contract.

In addition, a cleaning fee of $60 per stay is added to the bill ($175 for the Artist House). Guests staying less than 28 days will also be charged 12% sales tax.

Additional charges also apply for any guests exceeding the normal maximum number of guests per unit. For the Pool House, Cottage, Studio Room, and Studio Flat, the charge is $25 per extra guest per night. For the Artist House, there is a nightly charge of $50 per additional guest over four people. (The Private Queen Suite cannot accommodate any additional guests beyond its maximum of two.)
